LIGHT (a)

Matthew 5:14-16

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Don’t hide your abilities, talents, skills, etc. Don’t let anyone call you arrogant (unless you’re -actually- being arrogant… but you’re probably not)when you do well or mention well of the things that are good. If you are acknowledging that all good things come from God, then you’re not being a liar by saying or doing those good things. If you think any good thing comes from yourself and you do not think that it comes from God, then you are being arrogant, indeed. But you’re not being arrogant in the sense that you’re lying about what is good, but merely about where you think from which that good comes.

Also, we are made in the image of God. So when we are set out to get pictures of each other, we are trying to capture that goodness which God has created. Sometimes that means a smile, sometimes that means a strong look – whatever the case, we’re trying to capture the character that God made you to be. We’re not seeking perfection in the worldly sense. Not everything that we call a blemish is necessarily a blemish. Don’t get me wrong, if it is something we don’t want in the picture, it’s easy to remove silly distractions. But should I add an arm to someone who lost their arm in battle – whether that battle be war, genetics, or disease? NO WAY! That’s a part of their story. So, also, in this way, we seek to capture God in you, your story, His story through you, and to convey this all appropriately. Therefore, we use good light to reflect off of your face and body so that we can capture the light that God put in you.

Bring your “A” game. Are you a boxer? Show up as a boxer. Are you a mom? Then show up as a mom. Are you a cook? Show up as a cook. Are you a student? Show up as a student. Are you a gamer nerd? Are you a construction worker? Do you work in an office? Are you a farmer? These are the things that matter. Don’t put on a fake face or fake attire, but shine your light forth.

You do that and let me do the rest.
